Officer credited with preventing suicide

PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - The words of a quick thinking patrolman are credited with saving the life of a distraught man who was going to jump off an intestate bridge.

Patrolman Curtis Morse was in his cruiser Saturday morning when he saw the 28-year-old man on 14th Street overpass.

The man was sitting down with his legs hanging over the side of the high rise while he wrote a suicide note.

The officer rolled down his window and talked to the man for about 15 minutes. The man took the officer's advice and decided to go to Singing River Hospital for treatment.
