Mississippi troopers issue more than 8,000 tickets

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi state troopers have issued more than 8,000 citations since Monday as part of a road enforcement campaign with Alabama and Tennessee.

Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol says that as of midnight Thursday, it had issued 8,308 traffic citations and investigated 158 traffic collisions.

Every trooper is on duty during the "Take Back Our Highways Campaign," which will continue through the weekend.

A Highway Patrol news release says three wrecks resulted in deaths on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. People were injured in 29 other accidents.

The number of citations so far include 95 drunk driving arrests and 197 seat belt violations.
