Olive Branch Police seize 30 pounds of pot in early morning bust

Olive Branch police officers arrested two women early this Wednesday morning after finding 30 pounds of pot in their car.

Investigators said police made the arrest along Highway 78 eastbound near Olive Branch just after 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Helen Suarez and Lilli-anna Castro, both of Georgia, were charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Officer Thomas Bailey stopped the car after he noticed it was swerving on Highway 78 between lanes.  That's when he and his canine partner discovered the drugs.

"He noticed some discrepancies in talking to the people, and noticed some odors from the vehicle," Olive Branch Police Chief Art Huen said. "Then a K-9 unit, which officer Bailey is, was on the scene after having some back-up, and the dog indicated on the vehicle."

The pot was found in the trunk of the car.  Officials estimated its value at nearly $30,000.

Suarez and Castro are currently in custody in Olive Branch, and will be taken to the DeSoto County Jail.
