Railroad worker finds body of missing Memphis woman

Monday evening, Memphis Police found the body of a woman who disappeared after a trip to a casino in Tunica.

Investigators said Diana Franklin was last seen early Sunday morning at a Tunica casino.  Her neighbor, Sammie White, said he last talked to her on Saturday before she went to Tunica.  White said he knew something was wrong when he saw police cars Sunday.

"I seen the police over there," he said. "I said, 'Something wrong with your Momma?' 'Yeah...she didn't come home. Ain't called.'"

Investigators believe Franklin went to Tunica alone. It is not clear if she won any money. When she didn't show up at her home Sunday, her family reported her missing.

Investigators said foul play was not suspected until they discovered Franklin's car on a street in Westwood.  It was located nowhere near where she lived.

A short time later, a railroad worker discovered a body on some tracks he was working on.  The medical examiner soon determined it was the body of Diana Franklin.

Franklin's body was found only thee miles from where her car was found on Sunday.  Memphis Police and the casino she visited are reviewing video surveillance recordings to see who she might have been with, or who was around her.

White could not believe what happened.

"She was real nice to me and everything," he said.

The Shelby County Medical Examiner is still trying to determine how Franklin died.  If you have any information that could aid the police investigation, call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
