UPDATE: Police identify body found at police department impound lot

Memphis Police have identified a body that was found Saturday afternoon at the department's impound lot.

Late Sunday, investigators identified the man as Chris Carmicle, 32. Police said Carmicle was found dead in the trunk of a 1993 Chevrolet Corsica that was being stored at the Memphis Police Department's impound lot.

According to investigators, Carmicle's car was impounded on November 21 as an abandoned or possibly stolen vehicle. At that time, a relative of Carmicle's was contacted by vehicle storage personnel to let them know the car was there.

Monday, Carmicle's family members filed a missing person's report, saying he was last seen on November 18th.

Saturday, when Carmicle's family members arrived at the impound lot to retrieve his car, his body was discovered inside.

The Shelby County Medical Examiner said Carmicle died from a fatal gunshot wound.

Police are still investigating the incident.
