Gift to the Union Mission changes the lives of many

Five Memphis houses owned by the Union Mission are home to five families this year. Families that were once close to being homeless.

It's temporary housing. The Mission requires them to have a job and a savings account. In return, they get to live here rent-free until they can get back on their feet.

It's part of the ministry's mission to keep families together.

"It gives us an opportunity to minister to them as a family. We don't have to send mom to one place, dad to another. We can minister to mom, dad, and kids all in one setting," Steve Carpenter of the Union Mission said.

This year Ashley Furniture Home Store had a surprise. They donated thousands of dollars worth of furniture.

It's just as much a gift for the Union Mission as it is for the families. New leather couches, chairs, kitchen tables, and bunk beds.

"It's nice to get brand new stuff that looks wonderful, Carpenter said.

For families that have been through some hard times lately, they're thankful for this gift and for the hope they've been given this Christmas.
