Parking lot robbery concerns shoppers at Memphis mall

Three women were robbed at gunpoint at Oak Court mall this week, providing a chilling reminder to shoppers to be extra careful this holiday season, while malls are at their busiest.

Memphis Police investigators said the women had just gotten into their car around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday when a man tapped on the driver's side window with a gun and demanded their money.

The man took cash and jewelry from the women.

Saturday, shoppers at the mall said the robbery showed the importance of security.

"I think they need more security out here," shopper Dorothy Cook-Mick said.  "It's Christmas time...the holiday season.  We need more guards.  The tower needs to be out, and they need to be on the job.

Memphis Police said extra officers are patrolling malls during the holiday season.  Towers equipped with constantly rotating cameras are installed around Oak Court Mall.

Investigators said Wednesday's robber left the mall in a dark Lincoln Navigator.  They do not have any suspects.
