Deputies search for man in Tunica County shooting

The holiday season came to a halt Saturday for a family at the Buck Island Trailer Park in Tunica County, Mississippi.  There, two young children were caught in the cross fire when their father exchanged gunfire with a man after an argument, Tunica County Sheriff's Department investigators said.

The father, who has not been identified because he has not been charged with a crime, was in custody Sunday, as his four year-old son remained in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head.  The other injured child, a three year-old boy, was struck in the leg.

A one year-old, also inside the house at the time of the shooting, was not injured.

Commander Eugene Bridges of the Tunica County Sheriff's Department said the father told investigators he threw his gun into the trailer park's lagoon after the shooting.
"We have a DeSoto County search team out here in the area helping us look for the weapon," Bridges said.

Bridges said they are also searching for the other man, Robert Marshall, who is considered armed and dangerous.

"He was at this residence when the altercation started," he said. "From what we gathered, he returned fire, so he's a person of interest that we're looking for."

Bridges said since the father of the children and the man he was arguing with both had a gun, investigators are not sure which gun fired the shots that struck the children.
Investigators said there are still many details to sort out.  Meanwhile, the windows of the family's home have been shattered, a tattered Christmas tree sits outside the back door, and just days before Christmas, one innocent child clings to life.

Bridges asked anyone with information about Marshall's location to call Tunica Crime Stoppers at 662-910-0400.
