Two people arrested following attack on school bus driver

A mother and her friend were arrested for attacking a DeSoto County School Bus Driver.

The bus driver didn't want to speak on camera but said she was still shaken up from being assaulted at her home.

Sonya Regular has five kids. Four of whom ride the bus with driver Cheryl Rogers.

Regular says Rogers' teenage daughter was on the bus Tuesday, and was bullying Regular's 9-year-old son by making fun of his baseball cap.

"She had bullied two other boys. She had slapped one little boy in the back of his head she said he was trying to push him out of his seat," Darius Regular said.

When he told his mom after school, Regular says she went to the bus driver's house.

"I'm a mother, she's a mother. The bus driver thing wasn't even an issue to me," Sonya Regular said.

But things got out of hand. Police say Regular and another man, Willie Coker, hit Rogers. Blows that left bruises. Regular denies that.

Police and DeSoto County school officials say there's no reason to hunt down somebody at their home.

"That's no excuse. No old fashioned way. We don't solve it with violence," Director of Transportation John Caldwell said.

Regular insists she didn't hit or threaten anyone.

However, DeSoto County Schools is standing by their driver.

Police say Regular turned herself in Wednesday. She's facing misdemeanor assault charges.

Regular says as long as Rogers is in the drivers' seat, she'll be taking her kids to school herself.

Tonight school officials are looking into pressing charges as a school district.
