Resilient Memphis plays Florida Atlantic Friday night

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A victory Friday night in the New Orleans Bowl would mean a lot for Memphis.

The Tigers lost four of their first six games and were shocked by the early season shooting death of junior defensive lineman Taylor Bradford.

Memphis and Florida Atlantic match 7-5 records in the bowl.

Tiger coach Tommy West said his team hung in there and got better as the season went on.       He said the challenge during the layoff has been to return to late season form.

You can expect a long game---both teams like to throw the ball.

Florida Atlantic, coached by veteran Howard Schnellenberger, is favored by 3.
