MIFA volunteers deliver Christmas morning meals

At the headquarters of the Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association, or MIFA, Christmas morning was a busy time.

Paper bags were filled with food and sacks were filled with gifts, all bound for the homes of more than 1,000 home-bound seniors.

Early Christmas morning MIFA volunteers, like Congressman Steve Cohen, prepared to pass along holiday cheer.

"The volunteers coming out often make this a regular event, where they come every year on Christmas Day," MIFA's Elizabeth Garrett said.

It was the first year the Donnelly-Bullington family volunteered.

"We knew we didn't have any company coming," Kaleigh Donnelley said. "We weren't going anywhere else, and thought it was the perfect opportunity."

Volunteers delivered meals in Midtown Memphis and every other part of the city, giving something back, and getting something in return.

"This is the first year our kids are old enough to understand what we are doing," Donnelley said.

Volunteers said they would happily sacrifice part of their own celebrations to give those in need a little something extra to celebrate themselves.
