Two die in car crash as snow and sleet hit Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Two people died in a car crash Wednesday morning on a snow and rainslicked highway in Arkansas, and forecasters predicted up to three inches of snow falling in the state's hilly, western region as travelers hit the roads the day after Christmas.

Arkansas State Police Lt. Shawn Garner said the two were traveling east on Highway 270 near Royal at about 11 a.m. when the driver lost control of the car. Garner said the car crossed the centerline and rammed head-on into another vehicle.

Garner declined to identify the deceased or the other injured driver, saying troopers were notifying family members about the crash.

"It just started a sleet-snow-rain combination at that time," Garner said. "It had pretty good slush built up on the road."
