Off duty deputy foils robbery at adult bookstore

It didn't take a Sheriff's Deputy long to arrive at the armed robbery at Fantasy Warehouse. The deputy, who was off duty, was already there shopping.

The gunman, who police have not yet identified, showed the clerk his gun and ordered the clerk to hand over money.

That's when Gary Gadd, an off duty Shelby County Sheriff's deputy, identified himself to the gunman. The gunman shot at Gadd but missed.

Gadd then fired at least two shots at the gunman. The gunman was taken to the Med in critical condition.
"Deputy assigned to fugitive division, a veteran officer since 1989 in the store shopping, realized the clerk was in danger he stepped out to identify himself," Shelby County Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Shular said.
The Memphis Police Department is handling the investigation.

The department said that witnesses told them Deputy Gadd gave the gunman a chance to drop his weapon but he refused. The man then opened fire on the deputy.

The Sheriff's Department said that the deputy did not violate any department policy by shopping at the Adult bookstore.
