Fantasy Warehouse robber dies

A man who was shot by an off duty Shelby County Sheriff's Deputy as he attempted to rob an adult book store Saturday has died, Memphis Police said.

Saturday morning, Lamon McDowell, 22, demanded money from clerks at the Fantasy Warehouse, located in the 700 block of White Station Road.  An off-duty Shelby County Sheriff's Deputy, Gary Gadd, was in the store at the time, and overheard the attempted robbery.

After watching McDowell point a handgun at the clerks, Gadd identified himself and ordered the man to drop his pistol.  McDowell refused, firing his gun at Gadd.  The off-duty deputy returned fire.

McDowell was transported to The MED, where he died Saturday night, police investigators said.
