Animal Shelter employee relieved of duty after automobile accident

Sources close to the case of an accident involving a city vehicle said an employee was impaired while driving a Memphis Animal Shelter vehicle Saturday afternoon.

They said the employee hit another car with a family inside on Mount Moriah and American Way.

Memphis and Shelby County Code Enforcement Director Keenan McCoy said the employee has been relieved of duty and will receive pay pending the outcome of the investigation.

McCoy said public safety is of utmost concern, but it would be inappropriate to say anything else until the investigation is complete.

Police records were unavailable on this incident because central records was still processing weekend reports.
