Arson to blame for destroying West Memphis restaurant

There is not much left of what used to Mary's Place Restaurant and at one time Earl's Hot Biscuits.  Fire destroyed the building early Wednesday morning. The restaurant was set to open up soon as The Cupboard restaurant.

"We've just gotten the official determination it was arson. It's under investigation But we don't have any suspects or anything else we can talk about," Capt. Donald Oakes of the West Memphis Police Department said.

Investigators said some kind of accelerant was discovered at the front of the building. But at this point it is not clear what that accelerant was. Samples have been sent to the crime lab to determine what it was.

Fire investigators brought in heavy equipment to move the collapsed roof. They were looking for burn patterns that might lead to clues and the arsonist."

The new owners leased the building and had a few details to iron out this week before opening the new Cupboard restaurant.

"We have several leads that we are following but nothing I can give out at this point," Oakes said

Oakes said they are looking for someone who had a reason to burn the building.
