Police search for clues in murder of DeSoto County man

Dwendolyn Harris said her 30 year old son, Rico, moved to Memphis from Chicago to live with her eight months ago.

"I was so happy he was with me," Harris said.

A motorist discovered the body of Rico Harris on the side of Stateline Road in DeSoto County Wednesday morning.

Investigators said someone shot him somewhere else then dumped the body.

"It was off to the side of the road about 5 feet. Easy to see. Very easy," Commander Mark Blackson said.

Harris' family said somebody stole his tennis shoes as well as his credit card. And tried to activate that credit card around 1:30 a.m. the morning his body was found.

Harris' mother said she last saw him New Years Day when he left for a date.  She said he recently met a girl and had gone on a few dates with her.

"My son was a very loving person. He didn't meet a stranger. I think he trusted people too easily and that is what got him into trouble," Harris said.

Dwendolyn Harris' neighbor said she tried to contact the 21 year old woman Harris was supposed to meet but no one seems to know where she is.

Now Rico Harris' mother has lost a son who just came back into her life and investigators are looking for a killer.

DeSoto County investigators said they have a few leads but no arrests at this point.
