Wife of firefighter killed angry over lack of charges

The day before her husband Janeal would have turned 36, Regina Williams is typing up a notice her late husband's birthday for the newspaper.

She said she is hurt because every time she calls police to find out the status of the investigation into her husband's death, officers tell her they are still waiting on toxicology reports. And they tell her there is still more investigating to do.

"I can understand if there are situations or there is something that they need in order to close the case and that was communicated to me then I can understand that. But to sit and wait and wait and wait and then be expected to heal after losing someone," Williams said.

Janeal Williams died after he and another firefighter stopped to check on their motorcycles and were hit by a car. A crash report names the woman investigators say was behind the wheel. But she has not been charged with a crime.

"I feel like a victim to because a part of me died with him because I'd known him for over half for my life and its just no excuse for me for it to go on this long and not even to be given information on why," Williams said.

By phone today police told me that the TBI has finished up the toxicology reports but there is still more investigating to do. A spokeswoman said that the investigation is not dragging.
