Does the future of Peabody Place involve outlets?

Imagine the bottom floor of Peabody Place Mall converted into a factory outlet. And the Muvico Theater turned into an extension of the Peabody Hotel. That's the buzz coming from industry insiders.

"I'm still trying to decipher it all just like everybody else is, but we're actually excited about it," Jillian's president Tyler Warfield said.

Tyler Warfield is the President of Jillian's, a popular downtown eatery in the mall that has somehow withstood the exodus from most of the retailers around him.

In fact, last year, Jillian's signed a 10-year lease renewal with property owner Belz Enterprises.

"Everything's been going fantastic.  We love Memphis, we love being part of downtown.  I'm from Memphis so to see things happen down here," Warfield said.

Warfield hasn't heard any concrete plans, but industry insiders say the vision is to make the mall half retail, half hotel and conference center.

Businesses like Jillian's, The Gap, and Victoria's Secret would stay while outlets would come in. So would Peabody Hotel rooms.

A hotel spokesperson would only say they are exploring the idea.
