Local attorney faces conspiracy and fraud charges

More motions are expected to be filed in court against local prominent attorney Richard Dickie Scruggs.

Scruggs , his son and others are charged with conspiracy and fraud. They're accused of bribing a circuit court of at least $40,000 for a favorable ruling on a federal case involving Hurricane Katrina legal fees.

The trial is set for February 25th.

Dickie Scruggs gained national attention when he fought big tobacco and the asbestos industries and won.

Several defense motions will be heard Wednesday, including pushing back the trial date, keeping certain details of the case sealed and changing lawyers who represent the defendants in court.
