Janis Fullilove wants to clear up misconception

The community knows Janis Fullilove as a Memphis City Council member, Charter Commissioner, radio personality and college instructor. And she said she wants to keep it that way by clearing up a misconception.

"I thank you and other media outlets for coming to me and helping me address this issue," Fullilove said.

The issue is that tenants are trying to track down her former husband, Fred Fullilove. They said he rented them an unlivable home.

Plumbing troubles, electrical problems, and a small heater for the entire house. Problems that sent them packing right after they moved in. And now, they say he won't return their deposit.

"I've received these phone calls about 'why don't you tell your husband to do the right thing.'  He hasn't been my husband in more than 15 years," Fullilove said.

Action News 5 investigators have tried to track down the landlord for weeks. After our latest report, Fullilove has a mission to help those tenants.

"My heart really goes out to them and I make them this promise.  I'm going to do everything in my power to locate Fred Fullilove even if I have to be a detective," Fullilove said.

You might ask, why not get rid of his name?

"On radio and television, I've been Janice Fullilove and that's what the public knows me as," Fullilove said.

So, instead of losing her identity, Fullilove said it is in everyone's best interest to find her ex-husband and make him answer to the allegations.
