Shelby County Trustee Bob Patterson has died after suffering a massive heart attack.
Patterson was serving his fifth term as trustee, after he was first elected in 1990.
"Bob can be replaced, but his shoes can never be filled," Shelby County Mayor AC Wharton said in a statement. "As a county and a community, we've lost a true public servant and statesman in Bob Patterson."
The Shelby County Commission will appoint an interim trustee to replace Patterson.
Patterson received many honors during his term as trustee, including the Victor E. Martinelli Award as top trustee in the nation.
Patterson was 69. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, three children, and four grandchildren.
Visitation for Patterson has been scheduled for Tuesday from 9:00am to 10:00am at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, located at 5668 Poplar Avenue. A memorial service will follow at 10:00am.
