A Memphis man has been charged in the death of his 13-month-old stepdaughter, officials said Sunday.

Memphis Police charged Danny Amador, 24, with First Degree Murder in connection to the criminal homicide of girl that died as a result of serious head injuries on January 17, 2008.

Officials said Cynthia Ramirez was pronounced dead at 7:31 p.m. Thursday at LeBonheur Children’s Hospital.

At approximately 5:30 in the evening, investigators said, officers responded to a report of an accidental injury regarding a child listed in extremely critical condition at LeBonheur. Officials there told police the child was in surgery, and was transported to the LeBonheur emergency room from Baptist East Hospital, where she was first taken by ambulance from the 3000 block of Capri.

The Shelby County Medical Examiner ruled Ramirez’s death a criminal homicide due to blunt force trauma to the head.

Investigators initially questioned the child’s mother regarding the cause of her daughter’s injuries. During the course of a full investigation, it was determined the mother’s spouse, Danny Amador, violently assaulted his stepdaughter when the little girl would not stop crying.
