Officials with the Memphis Safe Streets Task Force have charged a man in connection to a Saturday carjacking and kidnapping.

Investigators said Marcus Bryant was carjacked and kidnapped from the parking lot of the Mapco Express in the 800 block of Pendleton on Saturday.

After forcing Bryant into the back seat of his vehicle, one of the robbers got into Bryant’s vehicle and left the parking lot, followed by a second suspect, who was driving a Toyota.

The cars eventually stopped in the area of Douglass and Highland.  There, the suspects attempted to force Bryant into the trunk of his vehicle.  Bryant resisted, and was able to escape.  Moments later, Bryant spotted nearby Memphis Police officers.

While reporting the incident officers, one of the suspects drove by in the Toyota.  A brief pursuit ensued after the driver of the Toyota refused to stop.

During the pursuit, the driver intentionally rammed one of the responding marked patrol cars.  He bailed out and was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.

The man, identified as Terrell Westbrook, was charged with especially aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery, carjacking, aggravated assault on a police officer, and employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.

In addition, officials said, Westbrook could face federal charges.
