Peppertree resident claims management ignoring her cries of no heat

An viewer contacted Action News 5 Monday complaining about a lack of heat in her Memphis apartment.

"It was blowing cold air," Tajuana Malone said. "I had to stay in the apartment for two days with cold air blowing."

Malone said she and her boys, ages 1, 2, and 4, spent last Tuesday and Wednesday in their unit at the Peppertree Apartments with no heater.

"They were crying through the night," she said. "They'd wake up every hour and a half crying."

Malone said managers at Peppertree told her they would get to her problem when they could, but two days with no heat were two too many for Malone and her three little boys.

"I wrapped them up in the middle of the night, covered them, put socks and covers on them," she said. "Didn't worry about me."

A repairman came out on Thursday, but Malone said the problem still isn't fixed.  Her thermostat is set at 72 degrees, but the heater won't move the temperature past 65 degrees.  Furthermore, Malone said, cracks in the apartment's front door are letting in cold air.

Management at the Peppertree Apartments would not comment about Malone's claims.
