North Shelby County man shot by intruders inside his home

Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies are searching for two men who shot a man Monday night after breaking into his home near Raleigh, officials said.

Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Steve Shular said around 10:30 p.m. Monday, two young men wearing hooded sweatshirts kicked in the front door of a house in the 4100 block of Allendale Cove, in the Laurel Hills subdivision.

The two men went upstairs to a bedroom, where a 12-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy were watching TV.

Upon hearing the commotion, the children’s father, Ray Perry, 39, confronted the two men, who were armed with pistols.  During the confrontation, both men shot Perry, who was hit in the stomach and the leg.

After the shooting, Shular said, the intruders ran out of the house.  It is was not clear whether they left the neighborhood on foot or in a vehicle.

Nothing was taken from the home.

Perry was taken to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis where he remained in stable condition Tuesday.  Perry’s two children were not hurt.
