Two killed in Tuesday morning traffic accident

The Jeep Cherokee involved in the crash was heavily damaged. The Jeep Cherokee involved in the crash was heavily damaged.

A deadly car crash at the intersection of Perkins and Spottswood near Audubon Park in East Memphis took two lives Tuesday afternoon, after a driver lost control and crashed into another vehicle.

Investigators at the scene said slick roads may have played a role in the fatal wreck.

Angie Wooley heard the crash from a house nearby.

"The impact kind of made the house vibrate, and it was very very loud, and then we all just rushed out here," Wooley said.

The two people who died were in a white chrysler Sebring. Investigators said the driver lost control and hit a Jeep Cherokee.

"The southbound car just came over the yellow line in the curve here, slid out of control, and hit the northbound car head on," Lt. Phillip Rosser of the Memphis Police Department said.

Residents in the area said the roadway has a history of bad accidents.

"Its just very sad that nobody has done anything about this road. How many dead bodies is it going to take...you know...for them to do something about this," Wooley said.

Police have not released any names yet regarding this crash.

Two people in the Jeep were hurt and taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.
