Stolen laptops not tampered with

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Nashville police say no voter registration information was accessed or copied from two computers stolen from Metro's Election Commission.

Chief Ronal Serpas says the department's forensic examination concluded the computers were not powered up from the time they were stolen, and there is no evidence that any information was extracted.

The two laptop computers contained the Social Security numbers of 337,000 registered Nashville voters.

The theft over the Christmas holiday at the Davidson County Election Commission upset voters who feared the thieves could use personal information contained on the laptops to steal their identities.

Police arrested 45-year-old Robert Osbourne last Thursday in connection with the theft, but said more arrests may come.
