Changes in zoning could be ahead for sexually oriented businesses

Sexually Oriented Businesses were back up for discussion Wednesday morning at the Shelby County Building.

Wednesday, a Shelby County Commission Committee appointed three of the five members who will oversee the county's ordinance of sexually oriented businesses.

The members include Lawyer Kathy Kirk, Reverend Erik Winston, and former judge Bernie Wynman.

Commissioners also had the final reading that would change zoning for adult clubs. It would close a loophole that allows those businesses to be near residential areas.

"They're only there because they're grandfathered in, if they lose their license, according to my rule, they'll have to move to an industrial zone and away from churches, schools and home," Commissioner Steve Mulroy said.

Commissioner Steve Mulroy said that plan was approved in Wednesday's committee and will be up for final approval Monday during the full Commission meeting.
