Group going to Bass Pro meet and greet continues to grow

Memphis City Community Development Director Robert Lipscomb sent a letter to city and county government officials inviting them to a "meet and greet" with the top brass at Bass Pro Headquarters to talk about the bid to redevelop the Pyramid Arena.

And who's paying for the trip?

The money will come right out of the pockets of each government official.

A hundred dollars, each, for the bus ride and $99 a night for the hotel.

On the itinerary, officials will meet Bass Pro President Jim Hagale, then tour a store. During lunch, they will have an open discussion and a question and answer session.

They hope to come back knowing Bass Pro's level of commitment.

Action News Five's Kontji Anthony asked Whiteley why the two-year delay and three letters of intent with no solid commitment.

He said that's not exclusive to Memphis.

"In several areas it's happened in and will continue to happen.  It's a big investment.  We want to make sure we know what we're doing here," Whiteley said

More government officials have signed on for the trip this week. City Council Member Janice Fullilove and Shelby County Commissioner Deidre Malone added their names to the list.

Already on board from the city are Boyd, Brown, Lowery and Ware.

On the county side,  Avery, Carpenter, Chism, Flinn, Ford and Mulroy have signed up to go.
