Arrest leads to discovery of thousands of dollars in valuables

Meet Greg Craigen. A business owner in Hernando the last 13 years.

"It's really difficult when you are trying to run an honest business people trusting you with their vehicles and protecting them," Craigen said.

Burglars hit Craigen's car repair and wrecker shop a few weeks ago, casing customer cars in the lot. Even taking Craigen's trusty Maglight flashlight.

"When you are pulling vehicles out of the ditch at night you need your light," Craigen said.

But that light and about $25,000 worth of other valuables were stolen in Hernando over the past 12 months in all kinds of burglaries. Things like guitars, sound equipment, game consoles and DVDs.

Numerous cases went unsolved for months until detectives caught a break earlier this month.

"One of the items that we had missing was at a pawn shop in Memphis," Lt. Russell Perry of the Hernando police said.

That led police to Dakota Alexander. While in custody, he spilled the beans on all kinds of criminal activity.

"When you do find a case and you an turn over 7 or 8 cases at one time it really helps you to do your job," Perry said.

For Greg Craigen, he's got more security in the form of a surveillance system. Helping to fight back against criminal minds and what they're after.
