Methodists withdraw credentials from suspect

JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) - The United Methodist Church has withdrawn the ministerial credentials of a former West Tennessee pastor after a second child sex charge was placed against him.

Brian Riley had been suspended as pastor of the Middleton United Methodist Church after his initial arrest Dec. 13 on a charge of sexual battery by an authority figure.

He was arrested again Jan. 18 because of images investigators found on computer hard drives and charges of sexual exploitation of a minor.

The Memphis Annual Conference of the church announced Thursday it had removed Riley's clergy credentials.

Riley remains in jail under $500,000 bond.
