Huckabee courts Thompson backers in Tennessee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee skipped campaigning in Florida a day before its primary in hopes of laying claim to Fred Thompson's backers in Tennessee.

Huckabee said those who backed the former Tennessee senator should now turn to him because he's consistently shown he's a conservative - supporting anti-abortion measures and tax cuts while governor of Arkansas.

Thompson withdrew from the race last week after a disappointing third-place finish in South Carolina.

Huckabee attended a rally for supporters in Florida on Monday morning. Then he was scheduled to meet with Tennessee political leaders, take a tour of Nashville's famed Music Row, and play bass guitar in a recording session at a studio.
