Government and business leaders travel to Bass Pro headquarters

About 20 government and business leaders from Memphis and Shelby County arrived in Missouri to see if Bass Pro is the way to solve the Pyramid Arena woes.

After more than two years and three letters of intent to build a Bass Pro mega-store in the arena, there are no solid commitments from the outdoor retailer.

Ten of the 26 members of the Memphis City Council and Shelby County Commission took the bus trip to Bass Pro Headquarters to see how their proposal stacks up against the Ericson's Group proposal to build a resort and theme park in and around the Pyramid.

Keep in mind, Bass Pro's third letter of intent expires Thursday and it is unclear if the Mayors of Memphis and Shelby County will give them another chance at a fourth letter of intent.

What is interesting is some business leaders also took the trip.

Representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, Riverfront Development Corporation, and the Center City Commission are also there.

Wednesday, everyone will tour the Bass Pro mega-store in Springfield Missouri. One that would be similar to the one they are planning to build in Memphis.

There will be a question and answer session with President Jim Hagale, then the group will head back to Memphis.
