School board members approve rezoning

Your student may attend a different school now that Shelby County School board members approved rezoning part of the district.

The rezoning approved today will do a lot to relieve an overcrowding crunch Shelby County has been struggling with at the middle school level.

The rezoning will decide who goes to the new Bon Lin Middle School being built right now near North Germantown and Memphis Arlington roads.

County officials said the new school has been needed for quite some time to relieve overcrowding at Appling Middle, Arlington Middle, and Shadowlawn Middle schools.

"What we did today was we rezoned we set up a zone we carved out part of the other three  middle schools that were over crowded so that the students in those other three - some of the students about 600 of the students that attend those other three  overcrowded middle schools in that area will now next year go to this new middle school," Bobby Webb of the Shelby County schools said.

Superintendent Bobby Webb said the rezoning map was developed after a number of public meeting and forums.
