Parents begin turning in optional school applications

Memphis parents hoping to move their children to one of the district's optional schools began turning their applications in this morning.

Many parents signed up on the parent sponsored reservation list, which determines the order in which the district considers each application.

The reservation list has eased past problems created by optional school application day. Every year, there are a few parents who haven't heard about the list.
"I'm upset this morning, because I've done all that I knew to do going by the rules and the regulations hear at MCS at the Board Of Education as to what I needed to do to get my son in optional school," parent Jacqueline McMillion said.

The parent reservation list is honored by the school district, but is not district-sponsored.

Jacqueline McMillon was able to turn in her application, but there were at least a thousand people before her who signed up on the reservation list.

McMillion said the district should do everything in its power to make sure parents know about the reservation list.
