Realtors offer reward in search for burglar targeting vacant homes

Memphis police are searching for a burglar targeting homes for sale.

Jules Wade of the Memphis Area Association of Realtors say the thief has broken into lock boxes and used keys inside to break into 47 homes since the week after Thanksgiving.

Most of the vacant homes were located in the area of Macon and Graham.

Similar burglaries were reported in the Perkins and Quince area, and near Cherry and Rhodes.

"It appears that this individual is using brute force to absolutely totally smash the box, compromise it, and break it open," Wade said, adding items as big as appliances have been stolen in broad daylight.  At least five times, the thief has been seen loading appliances into an older-model white pick-up truck.

The Association of Realtors is offering a $5,000 reward for clues that could lead to an arrest.

They are urging neighbors to contact police if they notice any suspicious activity around properties for sale in their neighborhood.

If you have information that could help police, call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
