John Grisham, out with 21st book, sees himself as an entertainer and not literary giant

NEW YORK (AP) - Mega-selling author, self-styled political junkie and former Mississippi state legislator John Grisham says what he writes is pure entertainment. Grisham's newest book "The Appeal" is more political intrigue than legal thriller.

It's his 21st and already at the top of some best-seller lists.

Grisham, who turns 53 on Feb. 8, is a big supporter of Hillary Clinton and says the Democrats have been outmaneuvered by the Republicans.

He tells The Associated Press that he's so addicted to following the presidential race that he jokes he might need rehab.

Grisham's publisher -- Doubleday -- says his books have sold 235 million copies worldwide and some have been made into blockbuster movies, starring such heavyweights as Denzel Washington, Julia Roberts, Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Cruise and Matt Damon.
