Several school districts, including Memphis, dismiss for weather

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Several school districts in West Tennessee were planning to dismiss students early to help them avoid severe weather forecast in the afternoon.

A front moving into the state Tuesday afternoon was forecast to bring strong storms with damaging winds, hail and the chance of tornadoes.

Memphis city schools spokeswoman Rita Cooper says they made the decision to let students out at 12:30 p.m. CST out of "an abundance of precaution." Super Tuesday polls at schools were expected to stay open until 7 p.m. CST.

School districts in Jackson, Dyersburg, Union City and several other West Tennessee communities also planned to dismiss early.
