People inside warehouse seeking shelter when twister hit

Through investigators and family members, Action News 5 has learned that people inside the DSC warehouse were trying to find a safe place when the tornado hit. But the strength of the storm was no match for the warehouse and 60 year old Marlys Peske who died taking cover in a bathroom.

To know Marlys Peske was to love her, and her sister Cheryl Wood loved her dearly.

Tuesday before the storms hit, Marlys even warned Cheryl to be careful

"Stay here. Be safe. Get in the closet. If these things go off it's really bad they've been tracking it for a couple of days," Cheryl Wood said.

That would be their last conversation.

When the storms hit, Wood was worried and came to the warehouse trying to get any information about her sister.

She tried for hours on scene. Then at hospitals. She did not find out about Marlys death until six o'clock the next morning.

"Right now I'm still in a state of shock. Confusion...and I don't know how I'll come to terms with this as days go by," Wood said.

DSC administrators say Marlys Peske was discovered in a bathroom. Trying to find a safe haven. But the warehouse couldn't withstand the twister's intensity.

"The building actually shifted like this and laid over and then everything comes down the blocks and the metal beams," Wood said.

A sad and sudden ending to a caring and considerate person who was loved by friends, fellow coworkers, and family.
