Grand Jury indicts Beale Street security guard on assault charge

A Grand Jury in Memphis returned a criminal indictment against a security guard for allegedly assaulting a man visiting the Beale Street entertainment district last August, officials said Thursday.

The Grand Jury indicted Dray Davis, 22, on one count of aggravated assault.

The indictment stems from an incident near the corner of Third Street and Beale last August.  According to a court affidavit, the defendant and the victim, David Hamilton, got into an argument which eventually turned physical.  Hamilton was allegedly dropped to the ground, and suffered multiple rib fractures and a skull fracture as a result.

Davis was arrested one day after the altercation, and was soon after released on $25,000 bond.

If convicted, he could face up to six years in prison.
