Parents speak out about Central High cell phone video

A group of girls were screaming and brawling in the Central High School parking lot last week.

A student shot cell phone video of the fight after a group of girls drove up, jumped out of a car, and started beating up another girl.

The blows knock one girl to the ground and then the other girls join in. A guy gets in the middle and then other boys start fighting too.

Letha Jackson first saw the footage on Action News 5. Her granddaughter goes to Central High School.

"I think it's so much happening, I don't know what to think anymore because I don't understand these kids," Jackson said.

Pearline Scott said this is not just a problem in the schools.

She said this is part of a larger problem in the community with all the recent school violence.

"I just feel bad.  About all this stuff going on.  All this killing, all this shooting.  All I can do is pray and hope for the best," Scott said.

Gwendolyn Pruitt has a daughter and other family members who go to Central High.

"They need to do something about everything going on these schools anyway.  They need to have security out 24 hours a day," Pruitt said.

Memphis City Schools said they will reserve comment until the video clip can be validated for authenticity, but they will investigate to see if disciplinary action is warranted.
