Grisly remains discovered near the banks of the Coldwater River

DeSOTO COUNTY, MS (WMC-TV) - Under a clear Mid-South sky near remote part of Highway 78 in Desoto County, death was discovered on the banks of the Coldwater River early Thursday afternoon.

"Naked. No feet," was how Commander Mark Blackson of the Desoto County Sheriff's Office described a body that was found there.
The grizzly remains, those an African-American woman, were uncovered by transportation workers repairing the Highway 78 bridge.

"Someone was extremely mad at this person, which tells me it was probably somebody who knows her really well," Blackson said.
Cadaver dogs combed through the area as dive teams searched the Coldwater River, uncovering nothing of note. Detectives said they would examine the remains of the woman to solve the mysterious murder.

"Somebody knows her, and realizes that we got somebody who is missing," Blackson said.
Less than a mile away, truckers regularly drive the stretch of highway where the body was found shook their heads in disbelief.

"Back in the olden days, you could walk down the street and talk to your neighbor. Nowadays you don't even want to walk down the street. People want to kill you or harm you or rob you," trucker Dan Berry said.
Late Thursday, Detectives were awaiting results of an autopsy in hopes of learning how the victim died.
