Tygre heads home with new family

There were families from Pennsylvania, Connecticut and even Canada who wanted to adopt Tygre, the shepherd/retriever mix. But, it was a couple from Louisiana that got to take Tygre home.

Recovered from her wounds, Tygre is still going through heartworm therapy.

Tygre's new owners are Joy and George Frith from Lake Charles, Louisiana.

The couple was staying in Tunica the day the dog made the leap into the Tigers den.

"We turned on Channel 5 news and saw Tygre and I told Joy we need to adopt her," George Frith said.

So, they put in their application..

"When we saw her, her eyes, our hearts went out to her," Joy Frith said.

They waited for weeks before they found out Tygre was theirs.

"I cried when I got the news, I was so excited," Joy Frith said.

Bonnie Bain and Sunny Meadows Rescue nurtured the dog back to health.

"She's been in the office for 3 weeks and not seeing her in the office is going to be sad," Bain said.

Bain couldn't hold back the tears as Tygre left with her new family.

As for the dog's name, will the couple keep it?

"I like it. And I love the way they spell it.  I thought it was so cute," Joy Frith said.

Tygre will go through heartworm treatment for at least another month.

She is expected to make a full recovery.
