FEMA approves more than $1.3 million to state's storm victims

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Federal Emergency Management Agency says it has approved more than $1.3 million in relief to Tennessee victims of tornadoes and severe weather earlier this month.

FEMA says 3,137 households have registered for some form of disaster assistance.

It also has approved $1,093,161 through the Individuals and Households Program to help pay for housing assistance, including rent and repairs to homes.

FEMA says $267,076 has been approved to help applicants cover other disaster-related needs such as medical and dental expenses, lost personal possessions, funeral costs and loss of transportation.

However, officials announced last week that some mobile homes purchased by FEMA for 2005 hurricane relief efforts have been slow getting to victims in the state while they are tested for formaldehyde.
