Tiger fans look forward to Saturday showdown

The University of Memphis Tigers men's basketball team plays Tulane this Wednesday, but fans are already looking ahead to this weekend's showdown versus Tennessee at FedExForum.

Last year Tennessee won the game, but Memphis fans like Rochelle McLarty say that won't happen Saturday.

"I really think we are going to pull it off this year," McLarty said Monday.

Gina Wiertelak agreed.  "The tigers, without a doubt," she said.  "It's got to be the Tigers."

A little less than a week before the big game, fan excitement continued to build Monday.  At Tiger Gift Shop, fans were buying shirts, bobble heads, and everything else with a University of Memphis logo.

"Right here, this is our hottest shirt," the bookstore's Colby Bowen said.  "This is our game day shirt for the U.T. game."

Tiger-mania has given managers at the store their best sales ever.  Meanwhile, tickets have been sold out for weeks, and you're likely to have a hard time getting someone to sell one.  On eBay, tickets for the game reached prices as high as $15,000 Monday.

Tiger fans like April Burton said they were worth more than that.

"I just believe its because we are playing Tennessee," she said.  "You know, we are the number one team, and a lot of people just want to see who is going to be the team to break."

The Tigers play the Tennessee Volunteers this Saturday at 8:00 p.m. at FedExForum.  If you don't have tickets to the game, you can catch it on ESPN.  For more information about the Tigers, click here.
