The University of Memphis Tigers escaped UAB at just the right time Saturday. Not because they won the game at the last second but because a riot nearly broke out after the game!!! UAB fans started to storm the court thinking they won on a last second basket. When they found out the basket didn't count and Memphis had won, the UAB fans started pushing and shoving the Tigers players. And plenty else:
'You know, some of the guys were still on the court, talking trash, and as we were going out, they were throwing beer and stuff, they were just throwing stuff at us,' according to Antonio Anderson.
Robert Dozier experienced the same thing: 'Spitting on you, throwing drinks and stuff. I mean, come on, we're all human.'
Head coach John Calipari: 'It was ugly and it almost turned into a melee and I almost got hit by a whiskey bottle. I mean it hit three feet from me it was a glass bottle!'
Conference USA is currently investigating the issue.
