Board to decide on proposal for new Union University dorms

JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) - The Union University Board of Trustees will hear plans to build four new residential halls to replace dormitories destroyed by a tornado earlier this month.

Union officials say the board will Wednesday to discuss and vote on a proposal to build the two-story, apartment-style dormitories.

TLM Associates, a West Tennessee architecture and engineering firm, made the proposal Monday to build larger, stronger and safer buildings than those ravaged in the Feb. 5 tornado.

The company says the buildings would feature safe rooms. More than 50 Union students were taken to the hospital from the latest tornado after they were trapped by debris. No students were killed.
