Jailers say inmate, once thought to be hiding, escaped

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Correction officials now say a missing Nashville inmate who was initially believed to be hiding somewhere in the Metro Detention Facility has actually escaped.

Terrell Watson was being held on auto theft and probation violation charges when he went missing from his cell early Sunday morning.

Corrections Corporation of America officials searched the facility with dogs and infrared trackers, but they now believe at some point the 33-year-old Watson escaped through a ventilation system.

Watson, also known as Terrance Washington, came to Tennessee after escaping in January 2007 from a jail in Maryland. Authorities say Watson faked an injury and then ran from officers there when he was taken to a hospital.
