Construction at Governor's mansion has neighbors angry

Renovations at the Tennessee Governor's mansion created some angry neighbors and frustrated some state lawmakers. Their renovations are leaving taxpayers footing the bill.

For three weeks crews have been blasting dynamite to build a new underground reception hall at the Governor's Mansion in Nashville.

Neighbors are outraged by the constant disruption.

One woman even honked her car horn at construction workers. In turn, she got a letter from the Governor himself asking her to stop.
"And its very disturbing because we hear the drilling basically all day and then the blasting comes but once a day...the whole house shakes," neighbor Eugene Lotochinski said.

Republican state lawmakers joined in the neighborhood protest. They are fired up over just how much taxpayer money is at stake.

The $18 million project has taxpayers footing two-thirds of the bill.
